————————————————————————————–
You may use one of below internet dialer programs to make dial-up internet connection.
* NetworkManager
* system-config-network
* KPPP
* GNOME PPP
* wvdial

1. Wireless Mobile Broadband Telkomsel Flash Unlimited Package

—[unlimited package or volume based setting]—
APN = internet
Username = <blank>
Password  = <blank>
——- or ————
APN = telkomsel
Username = wap
Password = wap123

If you are a subscriber to unlimited package service then the setting as mentioned above.
The setting above also applies as volume based setting if you are a non-subscriber to unlimited package service.

—[Time base setting]—
APN = flash
Username = <blank>
Password  = <blank>

1.1. Using NetworkManager

step 1: Right click on network manager applet (located on the right side of GNOME panel)
step 2: Choose “Edit Connections …” (“Network Connections” window will appear)
step 3: Click “Mobile Broadband” tab
step 4: Click “Add” button and “Choose a Mobile Broadband Connection” dialog will pop up
step 5: Select the modem (in my case it is “Huawei Technologies E220 HSDPA Modem/E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem”)
and then click “OK” button
step 6: “Editing GSM connection 1″ dialog window will pop up.
Edit the “Connection name” so that it give you informative name and then fill in :

Number   = *99#
Username = <blank>
Password = <blank>
APN      = internet
Network  = <blank>
PIN      = <blank>
PUK      =<blank>

and then click “Apply” button. If the APN=telkomsel, then username=wap and password =wap123
step 7 : To make internet connection, Left click on network manager applet and select the connection name we have just created.

1.2. Using wvdial

step 1 : as root, edit /etc/wvdial.conf so that it will look like as follows:

[Dialer internet]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”internet”
Modem Type = USB Modem
ISDN = 0
Phone = *99#
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Username = ”
Password = ”
Baud = 3600000

[Dialer telkomsel]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”telkomsel”
Modem Type = Analog Modem
ISDN = 0
Phone = *99#
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Username = wap123
Password = wap
Baud = 3600000

step 2 : on the command line, execute below command:

su -c ‘wvdial internet’

OR

su -c ‘wvdial telkomsel’

When the internet connection has been established, you will see the values of Primary DNS and secondary DNS which will be required to do step 3.

step 3 : edit /etc/resolv.conf so that it will look like as follows (the values below are primary DNS and secondary DNS you obtain after executing step 2) :

nameserver 202.2.208.10
nameserver 202.3.210.10

Debian Experimental need not edit this file. It is automaticaly configured.

Note that NetworkManager will replace the contents of /etc/resolv.conf with its own version. So, you should always edit again /etc/resolv.conf if you want to run wvdial.

step 4 : now the internet connection is ready to use

  1. Trim’s y!!!

    kebetulan saya pakai Linux Mint
    saya menggunakan Telkomsel Flash Unlimited
    saat mencoba dgn KPPP, query modemnya error
    Manufacturer: Novatel Wireless Incorporated Model: Ovation MC950D Card Revision: 3.15.00.0-00 [2007-12-04 15:40:23] IMEI: 359973010130305 +GCAP: +CGSM,+DS,+ES ERROR

    saat cek pake lsusb
    ID modemnya 1410:5010 yg mana seharusnya 1410:4400

  3. @Skeith:
    kalo menggunakan KPPP biasa saya lakukan prosedur berikut:
    1. KPPP>Configure>Accounts > New> Manual Setups>Dial > Connection Name = SembarangNamaKoneksi
    2. KPPP>Configure>Accounts > New> Manual Setups>Dial > Add > Phone Number = *99#
    3. KPPP>Configure>Modems> New > Device > Modem Name = SembarangNamaModem
    4. KPPP>Configure>Modems> New > Device > Modem Device = /dev/ttyUSB0
    5. KPPP>Configure>Modems> New > Modems > Modems Command > Initialization String 2= AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”telkomsel”
